About the bar association

The Kovalev, Malyutov, Tsypkalo & Partners Moscow Bar Association is a bar formation operating under Federal Law No. 63-FZ of 31 May 2002 “On Advocacy and the Bar in the Russian Federation”. In its work the bar association is guided by the principles of professional independence, confidentiality, good faith, and respect for rights, honour and dignity.

The association has been chaired since 2019 by attorney Dmitry Malyutov. Its attorneys work in two cities — Moscow and Mariupol; each attorney’s card names their city.

How working with a client is arranged

• You contact the bar association — we determine what help is needed and introduce you to the attorney specialising in your question.
• You conclude the legal-assistance agreement directly with the attorney.
• The attorney’s fee is paid into the bar association’s cash office or bank account (art. 25(1), (6) of Law No. 63-FZ).
• Whatever you tell the attorney is protected by attorney–client privilege (art. 8 of Law No. 63-FZ).

Verifying an attorney’s status

All the attorneys are listed in the Moscow register of attorneys. Any attorney’s status can be verified on the website of the Moscow City Bar Chamber.

The bar association and Kovalev & Partners LLC

The bar association is an independent organisation. It has a cooperation agreement with the law firm Kovalev & Partners LLC: work requiring attorney status is done by the association’s attorneys, while adjacent work — tax disputes, insolvency support, corporate law, valuation and audit — is done by the firm’s lawyers.
